Studium Generale: The Role of Pesantren in Strengthening Food Independence and Rural Development

Saturday, October 28, 2023 - The Graduate School of Universitas Nurul Jadid (UNUJA) held a Studium Generale event with the theme 'The Role of Pesantren in Strengthening Food Independence and Rural Development' on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The event took place in Hall 1 of PP. Nurul Jadid and was attended by all lecturers and active students of UNUJA’s Graduate School.

Studium Generale serves as an important platform for sharing knowledge and discussing significant issues in society. The theme of this event, 'The Role of Pesantren in Strengthening Food Independence and Rural Development,' is particularly relevant in the context of agriculture and rural development in Indonesia.

The first speaker at this event was Prof. Dr. H. Abd. Halim Soebahar, MA., the Chairman of the Early Religious Education Development Institute (LPPD) of East Java Province and a Professor at UIN KHAS Jember. He spoke about the role of pesantren in creating food independence and provided insights into how pesantren can actively contribute to advancing the agricultural and rural sectors.

The second speaker was Dr. Atmari, M.Pd.I, who is a Special Staff for the Ministry of Villages. Dr. Atmari offered perspectives from the government’s viewpoint and how government policies support rural development. He also discussed the importance of collaboration between pesantren and the government in efforts to enhance food independence and rural development.

The Director of UNUJA's Graduate School, Dr. H. Hasan Baharun, M.Pd., in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of Studium Generale as a platform for knowledge sharing and inspiring graduate students to formulate solutions related to relevant social and developmental issues.

The event was successful, with participants, including lecturers and active graduate students of UNUJA, showing great enthusiasm in following the presentations of both speakers. The discussion and question-and-answer session were animated, creating a space for the exchange of ideas and a deeper understanding of the role of pesantren in strengthening food independence and rural development.
