Lumajang — In commemoration of its 5th Anniversary (Harlah), the Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT) Miftahul Midad Lumajang organized a Studium Generale under the theme “Transforming Islamic Education in the Digital Era: Strengthening Character, Enhancing Competencies, and Preparing Future Generations.” The event, attended by approximately 130 students, was held at the 3rd-floor auditorium of STIT Miftahul Midad at 1:30 p.m. (Western Indonesia Time/WIB) and took place in an engaging academic atmosphere.

In his opening remarks, H. Khittotun Nahidin, M.Pd., Chair of STIT Miftahul Midad Lumajang, emphasized that the Studium Generale served as an important academic platform for broadening students’ perspectives while strengthening the institution’s academic culture. He noted that amid rapid technological developments, Islamic higher education institutions must prepare a generation that not only possesses strong academic knowledge but also demonstrates character, adaptability, and social responsibility. The event was expected to contribute to the strengthening of the campus and pesantren communities while supporting STIT Miftahul Midad’s ongoing efforts to enhance institutional development, expand academic networks, and increase its contribution to society.

Serving as the keynote speaker, Dr. H. Akmal Mundiri, M.Pd., Director of the Postgraduate Program at Universitas Nurul Jadid (UNUJA), encouraged students to understand the transformation of Islamic education not merely as a shift in the use of technology, but as a broader process of preparing individuals to respond effectively to future challenges. He highlighted the importance of the “Competency Triangle” as a fundamental framework for students, comprising spiritual, intellectual, and social competencies.

Spiritual competence serves as the foundation for ensuring that knowledge and technology are utilized in accordance with ethical values, moral integrity, and a sense of responsibility. Intellectual competence enables students to develop critical, creative, innovative, and adaptive thinking in response to advances in knowledge and technology. Meanwhile, social competence equips students with the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with others, build professional and academic networks, and contribute to addressing societal challenges. These three competencies, Dr. Akmal emphasized, need to be developed in a balanced manner so that students do not merely become users of technology but emerge as well-rounded, competent, productive, and socially responsible individuals.

The participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the discussion session. Several thought-provoking questions were raised by the students, including a question from FZ, as well as a question from UM, one of the lecturers at STIT Miftahul Midad. The discussion further enriched the exploration of how Islamic education can respond to digital transformation and how student competencies can be strengthened to meet the demands of the digital era.

The event also featured the signing of a cooperation agreement between STIT Miftahul Midad Lumajang and the Postgraduate Program of UNUJA. The partnership is expected to extend beyond institutional formalities and generate tangible impact through strengthened academic activities, collaborative research and publications, scholarly forums, faculty and student competency development, as well as various forms of collaboration in education and community engagement.

For STIT Miftahul Midad, the partnership represents an important step toward strengthening institutional capacity and expanding its academic network as part of its 5th-anniversary momentum. For the UNUJA Postgraduate Program, the collaboration provides an opportunity to broaden its academic engagement and develop a collaborative ecosystem that generates meaningful benefits for higher education institutions, pesantren communities, and society at large.

Through the Studium Generale and the institutional partnership, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to advancing Islamic education that is character-driven, competency-oriented, adaptive, and impactful. This synergy is expected to contribute to a shared journey toward building higher education institutions that are increasingly progressive, productive, sustainable, and capable of making meaningful contributions to the advancement of Islamic education and society in the future.
