UNUJA Officially Launches Doctoral Program in Islamic Studies

Bangil, June 27, 2025 — Nurul Jadid University (UNUJA) has officially received authorization from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to establish a Doctoral Program in Islamic Studies. The official decree (SK) was presented by the Director General of Islamic Education, Prof. Dr. H. Amien Suyitno, M.Ag, during a ceremony held at the Graha NU Hall of IAINU Bangil, East Java. In his speech, Prof. Amien Suyitno expressed appreciation for the establishment of the program and emphasized the importance of professional management, given that Islamic Studies is an interdisciplinary field encompassing various branches of Islamic scholarship. “This program holds a strategic position. It serves as a unifying discipline within Islamic academia,” he remarked.

The event was attended by members of UNUJA’s leadership, including Vice Rector I Noer Fadhli Hidayat, M.Kom, Postgraduate Director Dr. H. Akmal Mundiri, M.Pd, and several postgraduate faculty members. In his address, the Vice Rector reaffirmed UNUJA’s commitment to continually improving academic quality and capacity within the religious higher education sector. He noted that all UNUJA programs under the Ministry of Religious Affairs have achieved accreditation with excellent and very good ratings. Moreover, the high level of student interest in these programs reflects growing public confidence.

Meanwhile, Postgraduate Director Dr. Akmal Mundiri stated that the launch of the program is not merely an expansion of formal education pathways, but a manifestation of the pesantren’s vision as a center of Islamic knowledge—firmly rooted in tradition yet open to academic innovation. He emphasized that this doctoral program is expected to strengthen UNUJA’s role as a center of intellectual development for modern pesantren, functioning to preserve the transmission of traditional scholarship while also fostering the emergence of contemporary Islamic thinkers who are responsive to the challenges of the times.
